Breaking the vicious cycle of mother-to-daughter prostitution
Working to protect and empower HIV-positive sex workers and their daughters in the red light districts of Uganda
Rhythm of Life acknowledges that containing spread of and fatality resulting from HIV/AIDS requires the courage to tackle challenging social issues, the commitment to making long-term investments, and a preparedness to go beyond existing measures. As an organization, we view HIV/AIDS not only as a health problem, but also a product of — and exacerbated by — human rights violations. Since HIV/AIDS disproportionately affects the poorest, least educated, and most marginalized groups, our aim is to eliminate stigma and to empower those living with the virus.
We work towards improving the health of sex workers in Uganda and breaking the vicious cycle of mother-to-daughter prostitution by establishing and running health cafés in red-light areas and providing education accessibility to their daughters.
We envision a Uganda where sex workers have access to quality healthcare and where daughters are no longer bound to the same cycle — supported by health cafés and improved access to education.
Through "Her Tomorrow", we provide educational opportunities to daughters of HIV-positive sex workers — supporting primary, secondary, and higher education to break cycles of poverty and exploitation.
